About This Home

The roof is clay pan and cap tile, which is the two-piece version of the barrel tile most Florida houses settle for. The pan sits concave across the field and the cap runs convex over each joint, so the roof holds real shadow and depth instead of a repeating stamped pattern. It costs more, and it reads that way from the street.

The landscape was planned as part of the architecture rather than after it. Italian cypress lines the approach, the same tree that marks drives and property lines across the Mediterranean, and it gives the elevation the vertical counterpoint a low tile roof needs.
